Yoga Teacher | 100 Black Men of Traingle East Chapter
In a quest to lower blood pressure and relieve stress Patrick Lyons began his yoga journey back in 2000. From 1996 – 2010, he was on various medications to control his blood pressure, but through diet and exercise changes he was able to control his blood pressure. In 2010, Patrick’s doctor informed him that he no longer needed to take medications for blood pressure. In 2019, Patrick entered a 200-hour yoga teacher training program with Arrichion Hot Yoga in Raleigh, NC. Students were required to create a class for a specific target group. Mr. Lyons chose African American males ages 35 and older because they are disproportionately affected by high blood pressure and diabetes. Mr. Lyons completed an advanced 300-hour yoga teacher training program from Bhakti Yogshala (India) and is now a 500-hour yoga teacher with The Yoga Alliance. His goal is to increase awareness of the benefits of yoga for African Americans and create classes to help those with diabetes, high blood pressure and other ailments.
