Joel Phanord

Joel Phanord is a senior Speech Communications major at Clark Atlanta University (CAU), the largest historically black university in the city of Atlanta. He is trilingual; fluent in Haitian-Creole and English and intermediate in French. He has an extensive qualifying work history as he's worked as a haitian creole- engish translator, lead global ambassador, diversity, equity, and inclusion intern, and research fellow for, NOWCRJ, one of the country's most prominent workers’ center. He has taken on numerous courses and leadership roles at CAU that have allowed him to develop his global relations skills, especially in regards to intercultural communication and diplomacy. After graduating, he plans on attending graduate school in either Paris, Belgium, Beijing, Montreal, orWashington D.C. and earn his masters in foreign relations. After earning his masters, he will set out to become a foreign service officer and use his global experiences and cultural awareness to improve American relations with other sovereign nations and spread peace and prosperity through diplomacy. He lives by the former United States Foreign Minister to Haiti, 1889-1881, Frederick Douglass's quote, “I would unite with anybody to do right, and nobody to do wrong”
