Ms. Gail Ash Dotson currently serves as Chief Counsel, U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development, Office of the General Counsel. Ms. Dotson has served as an Assistant County Attorney with the Office of the Miami-Dade County Attorney. Her practice included workers’ compensation, counsel to the Housing Department and counsel to other boards, departments and committees. Prior to joining the Office of the County Attorney, Ms. Dotson was an associate attorney with the law firm of Fowler White Burnett Hurley Banick & Strickroot, P.A. Her practice included construction litigation, bankruptcy and complex commercial litigation. Ms. Dotson served as Assistant Dean, Career Planning & Placement, an inaugural administrator of the Florida International University College of Law. Ms. Dotson also served as an Assistant City Attorney for the City of Miami where her practice included counsel to the Miami Community Redevelopment Agencies and other boards. Worthy of note, in 2006, Ms. Dotson was appointed as a Judge of Compensation Claims by the Honorable Jeb Bush, former Governor of the State of Florida. In addition to other professional, civic and business activities, Ms. Dotson has served on the State of Florida Workers’ Compensation Advisory Board and was appointed to serve as a Commissioner for the Miami-Dade County Commission on Ethics & Public Trust. Ms. Dotson served as a Commissioner and Vice-Chair of this Commission for seven years. Ms. Dotson is a member of the Florida Bar, FAMU Alumni Association -- 1997 Outstanding Alumnus, Dade County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., former Board member of the Girl Scout Council of Tropical Florida; Greater Miami (FL) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, Immediate Past President; Miami Chapter of The Girl Friends, Inc., Treasurer & National Nominating Committee; Past Southeastern Regional Director & 2020-2024 National Chair, Five Star Chapter Excellence Committee of Jack & Jill of America, Inc., Gwen S. Cherry Black Women Lawyers Association and a 1987 graduate of Leadership Miami. She serves on the Boards of CodeArt, Inc. and Beacon College Prep and recognized as a Hometown Hero by The Association of Fundraising Professionals. She has mentored numerous law and other students and served on panels stressing the need for civic engagement. Ms. Dotson received her law degree from the University of Miami School of Law where she was awarded the Bill Colson Scholarship and Earl Warren Legal Scholar. She also served as Associate Editor, Business Law Journal and on the Moot Court Board. Ms. Dotson received an MBA from Nova Southeastern University and undergraduate degree from Florida A & M University School of Business & Industry. Ms. Dotson is a member of Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church, which she serves as Vice Chair of the Board and Chair of Trustees. She is married to Attorney Albert E. Dotson, Jr. and they have two young adult children, Ashley and Albert III.
